Moira Crawford speaks to Professor Robert Hill and asks how less fluoride can actually be more. Fluoride has long been seen as the ‘magic bullet’ in dental protection. Since its effect in reducing tooth decay has been recognised, patients have widely been advised to use a toothpaste containing fluoride on a daily basis. It has also generally been accepted that the higher the level of fluoride, the more effective the toothpaste at remineralising damaged tooth enamel, so while most regular UK toothpastes contain fluoride at around 1,450 parts per million (ppm), prescription toothpastes can contain fluoride in concentrations of up to 5,000ppm. Fluoride treatments and varnishes are applied to the teeth of children at risk of caries, and in several regions of the UK fluoride has been added From https://www.dentistry.co.uk/2019/05/27/quality-over-quantity/ from From https://aubreyflores.blogspot.com/2019/05/quality-over-quantity.html from From https://charlesjohnson2.blogspot.com/2019/05/quality-over-quantity.html from https://charlesjohnson2.wordpress.com/2019/05/28/quality-over-quantity/ from https://allisonfisher1.blogspot.com/2019/05/quality-over-quantity.html

In science, a model is a system that is close enough to reality that one can learn something useful from it. It is almost always cost-effective to use models rather than the real thing as a test bed, even if the differences sometimes lead to misleading results. Medical and life science researchers put a great deal of effort into producing animal models of human diseases, a way to explore causes and treatments within available budgets. In some cases this is just a matter of standardization, as a given condition with very similar mechanisms exists in multiple species besides our own. In others, such as Alzheimer’s disease, the models must be highly artificial, as none of the relevant mechanisms of the human condition exist naturally in the From https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2019/05/werner-syndrome-versus-natural-aging/ from From https://aubreyflores.blogspot.com/2019/05/werner-syndrome-versus-natural-aging.html from From https://charlesjohnson2.blogspot.com/2019/05/werner-syndrome-versus-natural-aging.html from https://charlesjohnson2.wordpress.com/2019/05/28/werner-syndrome-versus-natural-aging/ from https://allisonfisher1.blogspot.com/2019/05/werner-syndrome-versus-natural-aging.html It’s been a real whirlwind romance. (Check out past videos here. There will be many more to come over the next several weeks.) This week we’ve got another great Primal + keto snack, and this time it’s a sweet treat anybody (Primal or not) will gravitate to. I’m cooking with two of my personal favorites: dark chocolate and macadamia nuts. Fair warning: be sure to make a good size batch. ? Macadamia Nut Clusters/Bark Recipe Ingredients: 4 ounces keto-friendly chocolate (75-90% dark chocolate) 2/3-2 cups roasted unsalted macadamia nuts (based on your own preference) Instructions: Simmer a pot of water. Accordingly, such cancer stem cells are responsible for tumor progression and produce specific types of more differentiated cancer cells whose fates are predetermined. In a joint interdisciplinary project led by the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), researchers now show that cancer cells of glioblastomas—conspicuously aggressive solid brain tumors—manifest developmental plasticity and their phenotypic characteristics are less constrained than believed. Cancer stem cells, including their progeny, are able to adapt to environmental conditions and undergo reversible transformations into various cell types, thereby altering their surface structures. The results imply that novel therapeutic approaches, which target specific surface structures of cancer From https://medicalxpress.com/news/2019-05-cancer-cells-quick-change-artists-environment.html From https://aubreyflores.blogspot.com/2019/05/cancer-cells-are-quick-change-artists.html From https://charlesjohnson2.blogspot.com/2019/05/cancer-cells-are-quick-change-artists.html from https://charlesjohnson2.wordpress.com/2019/05/28/cancer-cells-are-quick-change-artists-adapting-to-their-environment/ from https://allisonfisher1.blogspot.com/2019/05/cancer-cells-are-quick-change-artists.html I’m obese and disabled. The UK Telegraph reckoned that a “Low-fat diet including one piece of fruit a day could cut risk of death from breast cancer by a fifth” (Ref 1). US Today was similar: “Low-fat diet with more fruits and vegetables may decrease risk of dying from breast cancer” (Ref 2). Both example newspaper articles quoted two numbers: that the risk of death from any cause was 15% lower and that the chance of death from breast cancer fell by 21%. AuthorJewellery may be made from a wide range of materials. Gemstones and similar materials such as amber and coral, precious metals, beads, and shells have been widely used, and enamel has often been important. In most cultures jewellery can be understood as a status symbol, for its material properties, its patterns, or for meaningful symbols. Jewellery has been made to adorn nearly every body part, from hairpins to toe rings, and even genital jewellery. ArchivesNo Archives Categories |
